Installation Options

The installer offers several options during installation to allow the installation of some optional utility programs as well as the creation of a Desktop Icon and setting up AutoStart operations for the CMStart or CM Control Center applications. This section describes these various options.

Optional Utilities

There are three optional utilities that can be installed. Thes are the CM Control Center, the CMPrint Utility, and the CMList utility.

The CM Control Center

The CM Control Center (CMCC) is a resident tool-tray utility that lets you set the startup mode, download files, launch games, and provides several other options that are useful. It avoids having to start the GUI when all you want to do is a download.

The CMPrint Utility

The CMPrint Utility is used to print out a graphical representation of your map. It produces high-resolution prints or JPG files with the controls labelled showing the functions that the map has assigned to them.

The CMList Utility

The CMList utility also lists the assigned map functions, but it only produces an on-screen text listing that can be saved to disk if desired. It's handy when you're creating a new map as it lets you check quickly to see what buttons and functions have been used. The file can be saved as a plain-text file and opened with NotePad or any plain-text editor.

Other Options

There are four other options that can be set during the installation.

No Startup Action

This is the default, which is to do nothing at all at Windows restart.

Run CMStart at StartUp

If this option is selected, a shortcut will be created in the StartUp group so that the CMStart utility will run when Windows restarts. The CMStart utility will then reactivate the last map that was downloaded. The CMStart option is disabled if the CM Control Center is being installed since the CM Control Center should be use for AutoStart in that situation.

Run the CMCC at Startup

This option is like the one for CMStart, but it runs the CM Control Center rather than CMStart. This is a more powerful option as you can select the mode to be set at StartUp and the CM Control Center offers several other useful options.

Create a Desktop Icon

This one is pretty much self-explanatory. Check the box and the installer will create an icon to start the CH Control Manager GUI for you.

Update Options

If you are updating an existing installation rather than creating a new one, the options for the three StartUp actions and the Desktop Icon are disabled. They will just remain as they were set during the inital installation. You can manually create the shortcuts yourself. For an AutoStart function, the shortcut needs to be created in the "Start" buttons "Programs -> StartUp" section so that they will be run when Windows restarts.

Also note that any existing icons or shortcuts will not be removed during an update. This is mainly a concern if you originally installed the option to AutoStart using CMStart, then added the CM Control Center. Normally you would want to create a StartUp shortcut to the CM Control Center and delete the one that existed for CMStart. It does no harm if both shortcuts run, whichever runs last will be the one that ultimately determines what will actually happen, but you'll probably want to delete the one that isn't really being used.
