Setting Editor Options

There are several options that can be set for the CM Editor. These include the various colors used by the syntax and definition highlighters as well as the level of syntax highlighting that the editor will perform.

Accessing the Editor Options Dialog

To open the Editor Options dialog, you click the Editor Options button on the Editor Toolbar. The button looks like this:

When you click the Options button, the Editor Options dialog will appear. Normally it will look like this:

Colors and Fonts

There are several options for colors and fonts. To the left of the dialog is a list of the possible options. They are:

Normal Text

Keywords

Functions

Bit Values

Data Values

Named Values

Comments

Message Text

Error Text

Background

Message Font

Directives

Command Names

Command Definitions

Most of these are fairly self-explanatory. Most apply to CMS files or both CMS and CMS files. The "Command Names" and "Command Definitions" entries apply to CMC files. The "Message Font", "Message Text", and "Error Text" entries control the font and color of the message that pops up in the CMS editor at the end of a script check.

Selecting a color item will bring up a standard Windows color dialog that will let you adjust the colors consistent with the display settings of your particular system. Likewise, selecting one of the font items will bring up the standard Windows font dialog which allows you to set the font, size, etc. Note that the text other than the message text must be one a "fixed pitch" font. The list you will get to choose from will only list the appropriate type. The Editor uses bold and italic text to indicate certain conditions so the "bold" and "italic" attributes have no effect on the editor font.

Syntax Highlighting

To the right of the dialog at the top are two checkboxes labeled "Standard" and "Definitions" that control the level of syntax highlighting. If "Standard" is not checked, then no syntax highlighting is applied and the "Definitions" box is disabled. If "Standard" is checked, then the normal highlighting will be applied and the "Definitions" box will be enabled. If "Definitions" is also checked, then definition highlighting will be applied to those items created but the %DEFINE statements.

Sample Item

Below the Syntax Highlighting checkboxes is a box call "Sample Item" which displays the current color and font style for whatever is highlighted on the left. Its background color is the current Background Color, its text color and style are those of the item currently selected on the left side of the dialog.

Buttons

At the bottom of the right side are a series of five buttons. These are used to initiate some action in the dialog. They are labeled:

Change Item - Change the currently selected color or font Undo Changes - Undo the last change

Reset Defaults - Reset the default colors and fonts

Cancel - Cancel the operation and return to the editor

Apply - Make the changes permanent

Monochrome Settings

If you set Syntax Highlighting off, e.g. the "Standard" box is not checked, then the whole display will be of essentially one color. In that case, many of the options will be blanked out and the dialog will look like this:

This just lets you set background and foreground text colors and fonts and the settings for message entries. Setting a black background and a green foreground will essentially make the editor work like it did in Version 2.
